WONDERFUL!
My husband wakes up at every little sound. This noise-maker has been GREAT! He sleeps so much better. It's our second. We gave it to my Mom to help her cope with my Dad's incessant snoring. It has 2 settings (one is louder) and you can twist the top around till you find a noise pattern that pleases you. It's expensive, but... so is alimony.
Works well. As marketed. Better than others I've tried!
This produces simple white noise that cuts out noisy urban sounds. It's better than another machine I tried from Target that sounded like static on the radio. This machine produces sounds like a humidifier or a fan. Works great.

Bought one for each of our kids--2 1/2 years and 4 months. A bit pricey but well worth the money to make sure they get some sleep!
Finally, some peace
For years I have used fans to make noise to drown out the noise of apartment living. With fans being made quieter and quieter I have often needed three or more fans. Then a fan will start rattling after a few months which makes it a noise problem and has to be replaced.
But this little gizmo is incredible. No more fans, just this cute little thing on the nightstand and it has been a god-send for me. I have been using it for two weeks. No more fans. Sleeping all through the night. Definitely worth the price. Wish I had known about this sooner.
Helps Me Sleep!!
I've always been a very light sleeper, and can't fall asleep with TV or music as an ambient noise. Having roommates on different sleep schedules makes the problem worse. I ordered the Marpac SpeepMate 980A from The Recording Store for .95. I didn't compare this to prices of fans, which I'm told will give the same or better results. The SleepMate does put out an impressive amount of sound for such a small device. The tone is a sort of high-pitched "whoosh." The tone is adjustable for intensity, by turning the top or side baffle. I can definitely say this product helps put me to sleep, because it puts out a very consistent sound. HOWEVER, it DOES NOT cover low tones such as bass notes from a stereo! This is frustrating because the low tones are what bother me the most when trying to sleep. All-in-all, I do believe I got my money's worth, because when the lights are sufficiently dim, and the bass sounds are not present, it's sleepytime!
